1962 War does not invoke military triumphalism in China

1962 War does not invoke military triumphalism in ChinaContrary to what is widely believed in India, the war with India and following Chinese victory does not result in military triumphalism in China.

The Chinese academic community, the press and the general public never take pride in the military victory of their country against India several decades ago. There are no museums or major landmarks displaying a sense of national strength to embarrass India.

Many Indians who visit China and interest with Chinese people now believe that the Chinese never wanted to humiliate India and China has been greatly misunderstood in the India media and among the general public. Several articles in Chinese press display this belief of sadness that China had to go to war with India.

In a recent article in the Global Times, an expert in global politics said that the Chinese leader Mao was not aiming to defeat India but wanted to get leverage against the cold war enemies, the US and the Soviet Union, who were working behind the scenes in eh countries.

It is believed in China that the main aim of the Chinese government was to jolt the Nehru administration in India to come out of the influence of the super power. The Chinese government now largely blames the United States for the Dalai Lama's escape to India in 1959, and even the 1962 war with India.
