PHOENIX ? Arizona police have arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly posting online comments about his plans to shoot up his school and then commit suicide.
Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman Jesse Spurgin says the boy who was planning the shooting at Wigwam Creek Middle School in Litchfield Park was arrested at his house after a person who saw his comments on YouTube alerted police.
No guns were found on the boy, but investigators were serving a search warrant at his home.
Spurgin says the boy was arrested on suspicion of interfering with a school and threatening and intimidating.
His name isn't being released.
Sheriff's deputies were posted at the school as a precaution.
The school wasn't put on lockdown.

MONDAY, Sept. 26 (HealthDay News) ? Eating fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of some colorectal cancers, according to a new study.
Austrailian researchers examined the diets of 918 colorectal cancer patients and 1,021 people with no history of the disease and found that consumption of certain vegetables and fruits were associated with a decreased risk of cancer in the proximal and distal colon ? that is, the upper and lower portions of the colon.
Consumption of brassica vegetables (also known as cole crops) such as broccoli, kale, cauliflower, turnips and cabbage, for example, appeared to reduce the risk of cancer in the upper colon, while both total fruit and vegetable intake (and total vegetable intake alone) reduced the risk of cancer in the lower colon.
They also found that eating more apples and dark, yellow vegetables was linked with a significantly reduced risk of lower colon cancer.
Yet higher levels of fruit juice consumption were associated with an increased risk for rectal cancer.
The study appears in the October issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.
?Fruits and vegetables have been examined extensively in nutritional research in relation to CRC (colorectal cancer), however, their protective effect has been subject to debate, possibly because of different effects on different subsites of the large bowel,? lead investigator Professor Lin Fritschi, head of the Epidemiology Group at the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research, said in a journal news release.
?It may be that some of the confusion about the relationship between diet and cancer risk is due to the fact that previous studies did not take site of the [colorectal cancer] into account. The replication of these findings in large prospective studies may help determine whether a higher intake of vegetables is a means for reducing the risk? of cancer in the lower colon, Fritschi concluded.

MANILA (Reuters) ? Typhoon Nesat pounded the Philippines' main island on Tuesday, lashing crop-growing provinces and bringing the capital to a near standstill as it flooded roads, cut power supplies and closed financial markets, government offices, transport and schools.
At least seven people, including a 22-month-old boy, died in the storm, with four missing, the disaster agency said.
Nesat was a category 3 typhoon with winds of around 200 km per hour (125 mph) when it hit the northern provinces of Luzon island just before dawn on Tuesday, Tropical Storm Risk said.
It lost some strength as it moved west northwest across Luzon at about 20 kph, and the center was expected to clear the northwest coast later on Tuesday, although rains and winds would linger.
"We cannot give any estimate of damage at the moment because the typhoon is still battering many provinces," said Benito Ramos, head of the national disaster agency.
Large portions of the capital Manila, a city of 13 million, were without power. Officials shut some rail networks as a precaution after high winds cut power lines and toppled electric posts. A number of flights were also canceled.
"This is only a temporary shut-off, so that there will be no accidents, no short circuit, because if electric posts are toppled, there might be short circuits," Ramos said earlier.
Strong winds uprooted trees and tore off some billboards along major roads. Debris blocked roads in the capital and provinces, and officials warned of the risk of landslides from heavy rains in mountainous regions.
The waters of Manila Bay overflowed onto Roxas Boulevard, flooding streets and parks around the U.S. embassy, central bank and finance department, with the water waist deep in parts. A radio report said the upmarket Sofitel hotel in the area was partly flooded, with buses brought in to move guests.
Manila residents in low-lying areas waded through floods to seek higher ground and evacuation centers. Winds tore the tin roof from a gymnasium used as an evacuation center in the poor, crowded Tondo district in the capital, sending evacuees scampering for new shelter.
Residents were also evacuated as the Marikina River in metro Manila rose to 18 meters, and water was being released from dams near the capital as they neared overflowing levels.
"The waters are swelling more and more. Since it started raining yesterday, the floods just went up higher and higher. It's not subsiding," said school official Evelyn de Guzman, who was working at an evacuation center near the river.
TYPHOON DAMAGE
Nesat, with a diameter of 650 km, dumped heavy rains on rice and corn growing regions in central Luzon, with nearly all of the provinces on the main island under a typhoon alert.
The weather bureau said the typhoon, known locally as Pedring, was dropping 15-25 mm of rain an hour.
Faustino Dy, governor of Isabela province where Nesat made landfall, told national radio that 15 to 20 percent of rice crops in the province may be damaged by the typhoon.
The Department of Agriculture said it may be able give a preliminary assessment of crop damage on Wednesday.
The Cagayan Valley region, which includes Isabela, was projected to account for 8.4 percent of the national third quarter rice crop and 10.5 percent of fourth quarter output.
There was no stock, bond or currency trading due to a lack of clearing facilities, with government offices and the central bank closed, and a Treasury bond auction was rescheduled for Wednesday.
On Monday, authorities ordered the evacuation of more than 100,000 people in central provinces, warning Nesat could cause landslides, flash floods and storm surges in coastal areas.
Nesat hit two years after typhoon Ketsana dumped heavy rains in the capital and nearby provinces, submerging large parts of Manila and killing hundreds.

3. Get rid of debt and eliminate credit cards.
4. Look at being self employed or starting a small business.
The people are most inclined to follow that type of "common sense advice" are senior citizens.
Many seniors live on fixed incomes. They paid off their mortgage and don't have credit card balances. They have money in retirement plans but many of the plans assets are invested in fixed accounts. Many are in a position where they are retired from a primary employer. They would like to follow a dream of owning a small business or earn income being self employed.
The person who stands in their way is Ben Bernanke.
If you follow what the Federal Reserve is doing, all moves are designed to protect Wall Street at the expense of Main Street.
Pushing interest to near zero is great for Wall Street banks but terrible for fixed income investors. Low long term interest rates are also favor Wall Street over Main Street.
Low interest rates have not helped consumers buy a new home or refinance. The additional bureaucracy makes it difficult for a buyer to get a loan.
As Joe Nocera pointed out in a New York Times column, it is almost impossible for a credit-worthy small business to get a loan from a Wall Street bank.
Bernanke's actions only help one group of people: Wall Street. Low interest rates do make it easy for Wall Street to earn quick and easy profits.
And Ben is not doing a very good job of helping anyone.
The headlines say that stocks are headed for their worst decline since 2008. Cardhub.com said that consumers added $18.4 billion to their credit card load in the second quarter of the year. That is 66 percent higher than what they added last year and the highest number since 2008.
Bernanke and the Federal Reserve has pumped trillions of dollars into "too big to fail" banks on Wall Street.
They made enough money to pay themselves million dollar bonuses.
The rest of us on Main Street are suffering. Especially small business people and seniors.
If, you did the opposite of what Bernanke was suggesting for the past decade, as John Paulson and others did before the crash in 2008, you would have made a fortune.
Senior citizens are not in an economic position to bet against Wall Street. They are risk adverse and don't have the massive amount of money to "bet" in the markets.
Bernanke's strategy is out of touch with Main Street. It plays well to Wall Street centric media like Time Magazine, which named him "Person of the Year" in 2009, but kills Main Street growth.
A focus on a decent rate for savers and people with fixed incomes would circulate money on Main Street. Focusing the Federal Reserve and on cutting through the red tape and making it easier for small businesses to get loans would spur activity and get the economy moving.
Taking a long term view, rather than reacting to Wall Street's thirst for quarterly results, would calm the markets and give people confidence to invest.
If Bernanke would get out of his Washington-Wall Street world and see how the rest of us live, he might change his policies.
At this point, he couldn't do any worse than how he is doing.
And the nation's seniors would certainly benefit.

"The satellite will not be passing over North America during that time period. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any more certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 24 to 36 hours."
The 35-foot-long, 15-foot diameter (10.6-metres long, 4.5-metres diameter) satellite was launched into orbit aboard a space shuttle in 1991 to study ozone and other chemicals in the planet's atmosphere.

You should only do this if you're wiping temporarily, or you're moving to a replacement phone of the same model due to a hardware issue.
If you're upgrading or moving to a new device: If both your old and new phone are rooted, the app you need to install is Titanium Backup. We love Titanium Backup, and have discussed how it's areally powerful tool for automated, hassle-free backups of your Android device.

When the app loads, tap the menu button and select "Batch."
Choose "Restore all missing apps + system data." This way you'll restore only the apps that aren't already on your phone, and the data for them. If you have the pro version, the process will take place automatically. If you don't, you'll be prompted to authorize each install, one at a time.This method works really well if you're moving between ROMs, or if you're moving from one phone that you have set up nicely to another with a number of apps that are already installed that you don't want to mess with (or that has some newer or different versions of the same apps you had, and you don't want to disturb them.)
If you picked up your new phone on day one and it hasn't been rooted yet, or if you just don't care to root your device at all, you have options too. The tool for the job for you will be Rerware's MyBackup Pro, available in the Android App Store for $4 USD. You could pick up the free version of MyBackup, but it's a 30-day trial for the Pro version, and you can take backups but you won't be able to restore them. MyBackup Root is also available if you ever choose to root your device, but it's not necessary for what we're doing. Here's how to get started:
Tap "Backup" from the welcome screen. You'll be prompted to back up "Applications and Media" and "Data." Start with "Applications and Media."
When your backup jobs are complete, it's time to move them to your new phone. Again, you can transfer the data by swapping SD cards, copying them from one phone to another over USB, or by manually uploading them to Dropbox from your old phone and downloading them on the new phone. However you go about it, make sure they're in the right folder on your new phone's SD card (probably in the /rerware/MyBackup folder.)MyBackup Pro is also a great backup application for non-rooted phones. While it doesn't have the power that Titanium Backup has for rooted devices, it can still back up your apps, data, photos, and other media to your SD card and to the cloud on a regular basis. If you're leery of rooting your device or your device isn't supported by any of the one-click root tools (and you're similarly wary of getting under the hood yourself and rooting it manually) MyBackup Pro is your best bet for a backup app aside from Titanium Backup.
By the time you finish each of these steps, your old device should be intact, and your new device should have all of your apps that you had on your old phone, along with all of the data you've saved in those apps. If everything goes smoothly, you're finished, and you can happily use your new phone the way you used to use your old phone. However, keep in mind that the backup and restore processes may take a long time depending on how many photos, videos, music files, or other data you want to back up and copy. Make sure your SD card or Dropbox account (in the case of Titanium Backup) has the space required to hold your phone's backups before starting, and make sure your phone is plugged in before you start a backup or restore operation.
If something happens on your new phone during a restore, you're in pretty good shape: you can always revert the phone to its factory settings and try again. If something happens to your phone during the backup process, it's usually because you ran out of space on the SD card and the app will quit or stop in the middle of the backup. You may have to attach your phone via USB or open your favorite File Management app (we like our App Directory pick, ES File Explorer, and many of you also suggest File Expert) to free up some space.
All of the apps mentioned above have pretty solid compression when they back up your data, so unless your SD card is crammed full already, you shouldn't have a problem. I tried all of them on an old OG Droid with the stock 8GB SD card inside and had enough space for all three apps to back up all of the apps and data.
Once you have a good, solid backup of your phone, it's worth stashing that away somewhere just in case you have problems and need to do the restore again. Even better, if your new phone is rooted, grab ROM Manager and do an android backup of your phone when it's in it's brand new, perfectly-configured state the way we outline above.
This way, if you ever have serious problems with your phone, do something to it so it doesn't boot properly, or need to restore it to a known-good state, you can use the ROM you created after your phone was set up the way you like, complete with your photos and media, instead of restoring it to factory settings.
Of course, you don't have to use an app to migrate your data from one phone to another. System data, like your call log, dialer history, and SMS messages, are stored locally on your phone's internal storage. All of the apps mentioned above will do it for you piecemeal if that's what you prefer. The same applies for photos, videos, music, and other files you may have on your phone's removable SD card. You can always take it out and move it to your new phone, or just copy that data piecemeal using one of the apps or methods above.
Similarly, a lot of information is stored in your Google Account, including your wallpaper and many of the apps you have installed. If you log in to that account on a new phone, you can go to the Market and push all of the apps associated with your Google Account to your new device. Still, this guide is designed for someone who wants to spend less time setting up their new Android device and start using it as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Investors in traditional IRAs are, for the most part, investing age appropriately, with younger investors tending to have a higher proportion of their accounts allocated to equity investments compared to older investors, who are more heavily tilted towards bond investments, according to research released today by the Investment Company Institute. This is the third report based on a database unveiled in July 2010 that collects account-level data of more than 10 million individual retirement accounts (IRAs).
The IRA Investor Profile: Traditional IRA Investors? Asset Allocation, 2007 and 2008?based on The IRA Investor Database?, a joint project by ICI and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA)?digs deeper than previous IRA research, revealing not only investor allocations in aggregate, but also how traditional IRA owners are investing across age and income groups. These findings provide a framework for considering the policy issues surrounding the use of this retirement savings vehicle.
?This research reveals that in traditional IRAs, the pattern of holdings tended to vary with investor age, typically as expected across the life cycle,? said Sarah Holden, Senior Director of Retirement and Investor Research at ICI. ?This age-appropriate investing pattern is similar to what our 401(k) research has consistently shown with respect to plan participants? investments in their 401(k) accounts.?
Nevertheless, Holden noted that some differences are discernable between the two groups. ?Traditional IRA investors, who are somewhat older on average, tended to have higher shares of their accounts in fixed-income investments,? she said. ?And target date funds were a higher share of 401(k) assets compared with traditional IRAs, reflecting in part their role as a default investment in the 401(k) plan space.?

The largest portion of traditional IRA assets was invested in individual stocks and equity funds, both in aggregate and across investor age or income groups at year-end 2007 and year-end 2008. However, over the course of 2008, traditional IRA investors? share of their traditional IRA assets invested in individual stocks and equity funds (including equity mutual funds, equity exchange-traded funds, and equity closed-end funds) fell to 44.3 percent from 57.8 percent, largely as the result of negative stock market returns in 2008. The report also finds that at year-end 2008:
Another noteworthy finding is that the youngest traditional IRA investors (aged 25 to 29) were more heavily invested in money market holdings than any other age group at year-end 2007. This is likely attributable to a number of factors, including both a preponderance of small balances, which have a higher tendency to be invested in money market funds, and the possibility that some of these investors may have shorter-term goals for the money in their traditional IRAs.
The pattern of investments among traditional IRA investors was broadly consistent with the patterns observed in 401(k) plans, in aggregate and by investor age. Equities and equity funds represented the largest share of both traditional IRAs and 401(k) plan assets, in aggregate and by investor age. In addition, whether looking at traditional IRAs or 401(k) plans, bonds and bond funds represented higher shares of account assets among older investors compared to younger investors. However, a number of differences were observed in investing patterns in traditional IRAs compared with 401(k) plans:
In aggregate, traditional IRAs had a higher allocation to bonds and bond funds than 401(k) plans, in part because traditional IRA investors tend to be older compared with 401(k) plan participants.

Upsets ruled the comedy ranks at the Emmy awards, with first-time winner Melissa McCarthy of "Mike & Molly" proclaiming "Holy smokes!" as she accepted lead actress in a comedy series.
McCarthy beat out such heavyweights as Amy Poehler of "Parks and Recreation" and Tina Fey of "30 Rock."
"I'm from Plainfield, Ill., and I'm standing here and it's kind of amazing," McCarthy said, giving a shoutout to her suburban Chicago hometown.
She thanked her parents "who supported me forever, and shouldn't have, and just said keep doing what you're doing."
McCarthy didn't mention her famous cousin, Jenny McCarthy, whose short-lived series "Jenny" provided McCarthy with her first TV series spot in 1997.
Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory" won lead actor in a comedy series over such nominees as Alec Baldwin of "30 Rock" and Steve Carell of "The Office."
Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, who play a married couple in "Modern Family," took supporting comedy acting trophies while their show won best comedy series.

Kate Winslet had barely collected the first Emmy of a distinguished career when she was asked about her real-life role as a life saver.
The British actress sprang into action in August when she helped rescue Richard Branson's 90-year-old mother from a fire that destroyed his Caribbean home, where Winslet was a guest with her two young children.
"I so knew I was going to get questions about the fire," she said, laughing backstage Sunday.
"I was in the right place at the right time to help Eve out of the house," Winslet said about Branson's mother. "In truth I will say she was already out of her bedroom. She had made it that far and I was just there to speed things along because we had to get out quickly. Thank God we were all OK."
Winslet won an Emmy as lead actress in a miniseries or a movie for HBO's "Mildred Pierce." It gives her another shiny gold statuette to go with the Oscar she won for "Shakespeare in Love."

Sofia Vergara of "Modern Family" is well-known for her shapely figure, which she showcased in a Grecian-style gown at Sunday's Emmys.
So there was still much to talk about, even when she didn't win a supporting actress in a comedy award.
"I love to talk about my figure," she cooed to a reporter backstage. "What do you want to know?"
She was asked what she wears underneath her fancy dresses.
"I wear my underwear from Kmart," she said, smiling. (The actress recently launched her own signature line of clothing and accessories through the discount chain.)
Someone else asked Vergara's co-star Ed O'Neill what he was wearing under his tux.
"Nothing," the actor retorted.
"He's wearing my underwear from Kmart," Vergara said.

The latest stop on Charlie Sheen's bury-the-hatchet tour was Sunday's Emmy Awards.
The fired star of "Two and a Half Men" appeared at the awards ceremony to present the lead actor in a comedy series award. Or as Sheen called it, "My old category."
But before he did, he took time to mend some fences.
"I want to take a moment to get something off my chest and say a few words to everybody here from `Two and a Half Men," Sheen said as a silence fell over the awards show audience.
"From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season. We spent eight wonderful years together and I know you will continue to make great television."
Sheen then announced Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory" as the winner.
Parsons said backstage that Sheen personally congratulated him, telling him his victory was awesome.
"It was that sweet and that banal. I wish there was something lurid to say," Parsons added.
Sheen was fired in March after railing against his bosses, who in turn blasted him for what they said was his unpredictable behavior.
Then he really went on a tear, declaring he had tiger blood, Adonis DNA and was a "rock star from Mars," as he insulted people connected with the show. He called former co-star Jon Cryer a troll.
"Jon, I want to tell you something: I do not think you're a troll," Ashton Kutcher, who replaced Sheen, told Cryer later when the two presented another award.
Cryer himself was in a forgiving mood. He applauded his former co-star when Sheen took the stage.

Ricky Gervais, who annoyed Hollywood royalty with his acerbic remarks as host of January's Golden Globe Awards, got a few shots in at the Emmy people, only this time from a distance.
"Sorry I can't be there live in person, not allowed, not after the Golden Globes," Gervais said in a pre-recorded announcement of the nominees for comedy series directing.
"In fact now, during any award ceremony, I'm not even allowed on American soil," Gervais joked.
He added that he knew anything rude or controversial that he said would be edited out. Then he went ahead and said it anyway. And it was fairly easy for television viewers to pick out the censored words and see how they were replaced with crudely edited fawning remarks.
"What a bunch of cowardly (bleep) countrymen, like Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan," Gervais said. "I've won a few Emmys myself. I've lost a few too. I was up for five last year, and I lost `em all, to other shows, that were absolute (bleep)."
He signed off by raising his middle finger with a Twinkie superimposed over it.
Emmy host Jane Lynch got in her own jab.
"Poor little Ricky Gervais, someone didn't get enough hugs from Mommy and somehow it's Hollywood's fault," she joked.
